The fundamental inspiration for the formation of the Malmesbury Arts and Culture Group comes from the absence of positive role models for our youth, which is why we inspire, educate, develop, and motivate Malmesbury’s youth to participate in arts and culture, thus improving their quality of life. We’ve made considerable progress in just seven months since our inception. The influence we’ve had has stimulated our community, establishing us as a beacon of arts and culture, with many exciting projects on the way. Unfortunately, this gap has driven many down destructive paths, such as excessive drinking and substance abuse, culminating in reckless and improper behavior.
We are artists ourselves; we act, sing, dance, and write poetry. We accommodate all art genres because we want to remove the barriers to people joining our cause, and we originally meant to include as many different artists as possible. Even though we are artists ourselves, we take pleasure in creating opportunities for other artists to present their work. We try to establish a culture that will gradually steer individuals away from destructive behavior and toward positivity, so motivating an increasing number of people to join our cause and, most importantly, providing role models for the younger generation.
We have managed to partner with organizations such as the Community Art Center Network (CACNET) and the West Coast Community Foundation (WCCF) in the fight to save our youth. We truly want to make Malmesbury an art hub, encouraging South Africans and artists to visit our town for an unique cultural and artistic experience. We want to see our young people participating in school sports, agriculture, arts, and activities that will help them improve and broaden their academic potential; we can and will do our best to capture this. It is important, and it is an enormous challenge, but MAC is pleased to strive to accomplish it gradually.
