Driver’s Licence Renewals still operate on a walk-in basis
December 2025 – Local traffic offices continue to operate on a walk-in basis. Motorists in the Western Cape must renew their licence cards in person at a Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC). Stellenbosch Traffic Department and the City of Cape Town confirmed that you do not need to make an appointment for a driver’s licence renewal. Below is a list of licence renewal centres in Cape Town and surrounding areas with available contact details.
October 2022 – The City of Cape Town announced a new online booking system for motor-vehicle licensing, registration, and municipal account payments, which caused some confusion as many residents believed they would need to book online for driver’s licence renewals. The announcement applied only to these motor-vehicle and account services, not to driver’s licence card renewals.

eNATIS
The national online booking system for driver’s licence renewals still does not include the Western Cape. The eNaTIS portal is the official South African government website for accessing National Traffic Information System services online. It allows users to check vehicle and driver information, pay traffic fines, and access certain motor vehicle and licence-related services digitally.
